5 Healthy Goals to Set During Difficult Times

It can be easy to lose sight of your own goals when hard times suddenly fall upon you. Grief and loss are just a couple of circumstances that will require time and healing. Setting healthy objectives for the future is one way to promote inner healing. When you set your sights on better days ahead, you will have already taken the first steps toward recovering from the heavy blows that were dealt you. While it may be difficult to find the motivation to start something new, you might consider a few example goals to set for yourself.

1. Establish a Stress Relief Routine

Making positive changes may not come easily if you find yourself in a stressful environment. When you identify what triggers your stress, you can start building a stress relief routine that helps you manage your feelings. Perhaps you need time alone from friends and family during an overwhelming time in your life or just a bit of escapism with your favorite hobbies. Your stress relief routine might include:

  • Meditating

  • Listening to music

  • Writing in a journal

  • Going for a walk

2. Work Toward Physical Wellness

A healthy body can support an ailing mind, and vice versa. Setting attainable goals for your own physical wellness can be instrumental in recovering your overall condition over time. The National Sleep Foundation recommends seven to nine hours of sleep for most adults, so establishing a consistent bedtime schedule is a good start. When you're feeling up to it, you can expand your wellness goals to include a weekly exercise or workout routine.

3. Tackle Home Improvement Projects

Your home should be a place of comfort. If you find yourself feeling gloomy or uneasy in your own house, there are certain home improvement goals you can tackle to change the way you feel at home. Clutter can be a source of anxiety that you can remedy by installing shelves and other organization solutions.

You can bolster your state of mind by improving natural light in your most-used rooms. Your budget might determine if you seek a DIY solution or a more involved window installation project for letting in more light.

4. Build a Support Network

Many people who are going through a difficult transitionary period feel as if they must carry their feelings alone. You might find that reaching out and building a support network is actually just the thing you need. Friends and family members can be a source of comfort, especially if you are experiencing a tragic event together. Online communities and local organizations could also be a resource for finding like-minded individuals who know exactly what it's like to be in your shoes.

5. Envision Success

Learning how to envision the success of your goals is a goal in itself. If you have any long-term ambitions, such as starting a business or earning a degree, don't be afraid to picture the fulfillment of those dreams. There may be low points when it feels as though you're stuck in a rut. When you think into the future, you may just realize that your everyday efforts are slowly paying off.

Achieving healthy objectives for self-healing will require small steps. The daily act of working towards your goals could become a comforting routine as the days go by. Before you know it, the difficult times you were working to overcome might come and go thanks to your consistent hard work.
